Overview
You can use much of this site without creating an account or telling us who you are. We do not sell your personal data.
- Regulatory tools (substance search, segregation check, placards, etc.) run in your browser; lists you build may be stored in your session or, if you register, in your member area.
- Technical data (IP address, browser type, access time) is processed in server logs for security and operation.
- Analytics uses self-hosted Matomo with IP anonymization (see below).
- Advertising on selected pages may use Google AdSense, subject to your consent where required.
Data transfer over the internet cannot be guaranteed to be 100% secure; we use TLS for connections to this site.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and comparable technologies for:
- Operation — e.g. session cookies so searches, segregation checks, and language settings work;
- Security — e.g. CAPTCHA on the feedback form;
- Analytics — Matomo (only if you have not opted out);
- Advertising — Google AdSense on some pages (where shown and, where applicable, after consent).
- PWA — if you install the site as an app, your browser may store offline cache data locally on your device.
Most session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some features may then no longer work.
Server log files
Our host automatically records technical access data, for example:
- browser type and version
- operating system
- referrer URL
- pages requested
- date and time of access
- IP address
These logs are used to operate and secure the site and for troubleshooting. They are not combined with marketing profiles. Retention follows our host’s standard periods unless longer storage is required for security incidents.
Registration and “My HazMat”
If you create a free member account, we store the information you provide at registration (such as login name and e-mail address) and hazardous-material entries you save, together with the IP address and time of registration (to detect misuse).
This data is used only to provide your account, import/export, and related features. It is not sold to third parties.
You can review and export personal data linked to your account via My account → export where that function is available.
Contact and feedback
You may contact us by e-mail at mail@hazmattool.com or through the feedback form. We do not offer telephone support.
Messages and optional contact details are stored only to handle your request. They are not used for unrelated marketing.
Web analytics (Matomo)
We use Matomo (self-hosted at matomo.preventize.com) to understand how the site is used and to improve it. Matomo may set cookies. Data processed can include pages visited, referrer, browser, and a truncated or anonymized IP address.
IP addresses are anonymized before storage where this feature is enabled in Matomo. Analytics data is not sold. We do not use Matomo to track you across unrelated websites.
Opt out of Matomo analytics — use the control below. It sets an opt-out cookie in your browser. If you clear all cookies, you may need to opt out again.
Google AdSense
Some pages display advertisements through Google AdSense (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC, USA). Google may use cookies and web beacons to serve and measure ads, which can involve processing of IP address, browser information, and interaction with ad formats.
Where required by law, ads are shown only after you consent via the cookie/consent mechanism on this site. You can withdraw consent in your browser or through Google’s ad settings: Google Ads Settings.
Further information: Google Privacy Policy, How Google uses data from partner sites.
Third-party content
Substance pages may load data from external sources (for example PubChem, eCFR links, or Wikipedia excerpts). When you follow external links or when your browser requests third-party resources, those providers process data under their own policies.
Your rights
Under the GDPR (and, where applicable, the German BDSG), you may have the right to:
- access personal data we hold about you;
- rectify inaccurate data;
- erasure (“right to be forgotten”) where no legal retention obligation applies;
- restrict or object to certain processing;
- data portability where processing is based on consent or contract and is automated;
- lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Germany, typically your state data-protection authority).
To exercise these rights, contact mail@hazmattool.com. We will respond within the statutory periods.
Changes
We may update this policy when our services or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date at the top indicates the current version.
